  1. General data protection information

The BETD Media Fellowship is being implemented on behalf of the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Bonn/Eschborn in co-operation with Bundesverband Erneuerbare Energie (BEE) e.V., Berlin. The two organisations collect and use applicants’ personal data during the implementation of the BETD Media Fellowship.

The personal data supplied during the course of the contact (name, institutional affiliation, role, email and home addresses, phone number, date of birth, social media aliases, travel preferences) and required to select participants and organise their participation in the fellowship is saved on BEE servers.

The data is used exclusively to select participants in the fellowship and to organise and to facilitate their travels and stay in Berlin at the occasion of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue and Berlin Energy Week. Any other use shall always be subject to renewed approval. Your data will not be used for advertising purposes.

The data is collected and used on the basis of the obligation to provide this fellowship arising from the commission awarded by the Federal Foreign Office to the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH (project no. 16.9015.5) on 12 October 2018. Furthermore, the legal basis is your agreement with this data protection declaration.

BEE uses appropriate technical and organisational measures to secure data against unintentional or intentional falsification, destruction, loss or access by unauthorised persons. Access to your personal data is restricted to staff of GIZ and BEE as well as the three external members of the selection committee who need to process it for the aforementioned purposes, and who will handle the information you provide in a proper and confidential manner. This includes all staff in Section G310 at GIZ who are assigned tasks within the aforementioned project, the managing director involved, his or her deputy, the project staff of BEE, and the members of the five-person selection committee.

Personal data is routinely deleted at the end of the project provided the persons in question have not given special consent and there are no statutory retention obligations and periods that make it necessary to retain the data for a longer period.

Your data will not be passed on to third parties outside the project consortium in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union (EU-GDPR). No data shall be stored in third countries.

Any personal exchange of contact details between applicants/fellowship holders and the project staff is explicitly excluded from this data protection declaration and is the sole responsibility of the persons in question.

  • Your rights

You have the right to enquire about your personal data, have the data corrected if necessary, and ask for processing to be restricted or data to be destroyed. Your personal data will then be destroyed. The consent given to use personal data can also be revoked at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing up to the time of revocation.
