Marcus Hicken
Director for Energy Diplomacy, Climate and Security, German Federal Foreign Office (AA)
Marcus Hicken, diplomat since 1998, has held the position as Director for Energy Diplomacy, Climate and Security since November 2022 after being Head of Division for Energy Diplomacy and Decarbonization. Prior to that he was Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Oslo after serving as Senior Advisor for Energy in Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Previous postings in the German Foreign Service include Beijing, Oslo, Tokyo and Berlin.
Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Marcus Hicken was Economic Adviser to the Central Bank of Eritrea in Asmara and Economist at Hamburgische Landesbank.
He studied economics and international relations and holds a Master of International Affairs degree from Columbia University, School of International and Public Affairs, New York.
